iWrite Brainstorm

Human trafficking is a major social justice issue that is widely unspoken for. From my limited knowledge, I know that there are people in our very own cities, as well as overseas, that are experiencing this firsthand. I would like to write this paper about this issue to not only raise my own awareness but people's around me as well.

SOPA Protests

The SOPA bill intends to help hack away at the piracy issues our media faces. Unfortunately, because of legislators ignorance and ineptitude to do further research, the bill has been drafted to handicap a vast number of internet sites and in turn, will do almost nothing towards pirates. At this point in the SOPA situation, the massive petitions and social protests have made American's voice known. If Congress does not take into account not only the general opinion and protest but also the professionally informed opinion and disapproval of internet technicians, then it will prove that Congress is not doing its job to represent the American people. I think that this is a huge issue, but in the end, Elected Officials not responding to their people's voice is a far more drastic and frightening issue.

Unplugging: What Resonates

I personally love the idea of unplugging. I would completely drop social media altogether if it were not used so frequently by the Nashville music scene for communication. There are days when I forget my cell phone in my dorm, and although I am concerned about any urgently important messages or calls, I enjoy those days in a very freeing way. One of my favorite pastimes is backpacking in the hills of Tennessee and Kentucky. In those times, I know that there will be no internet connection, no power for my computer, and best of all, no phone service. In those times, it is amazing to have such a simple excuse to disconnect from society electronically and enjoy life with no unneeded distractions. I suspect that most of the world would be more open to unplugging for a few days if they just had a simple excuse such as exploring the wilderness with a group of friends.

Technology and Culture and Vice- Versa

Technology has created a more social and communicative culture in America today. In what was originally intended for the US government, the American people use the internet specifically for contact, social media, and fraternizing more anything else. This was not possible even fifty or one hundred years ago when the use of a landline phone, mail, and general word of mouth reigned dominant as forms of social communication. Unfortunately, modern forms of communication take away many aspects of true human to human interaction and replace this with human to computer interaction. By doing this, we are creating a culture that appears quite socially active on its exoskeleton but internally is lacking vital social and people skills.

Culture has affected technology by pushing it to progress drastically. Our culture is defined by progression and a constant need to improve. This drive has caused many technologies such as ones used in the medical field, the automotive industry, and particularly in computer technology to progress at a rapid rate to satisfy the desires of more in our country. Technology has to keep up with our voracious appetite for consumption and progress. Culture also holds a stigma toward technology in which it needs to progress. In this circle of cause and effect, technology keeps advancing because of our desire for progress and our appetite for consumption is fueled by progressing technologies.

Dont's of A Writer

Do not use contractions. If the work is a scholarly work, do not use 1st person. Be wary of paragraph breaks and never use because, and, or words similar to start a sentence. Never plagiarize and always cite sources correctly. Run on sentences are dangerous and incorrect punctuation is a sin.
